East Leyden’s Operation Snowball hosted its annual 5k Run/Walk for Suicide Prevention at the Centerpointe Preserve in Northlake last week.

This event, which as been in the works since July, “was stressful at times but, the turnout was great,” said Yesenia Diaz, a Snowball member.

“This event was made to fundraise enough money to purchase several anchor boxes which will serve to be a resource for those who are in despair and feel alone,” says Yesenia.

Anchor boxes contain motivational notes available to anyone who needs a little “pick me up” during hopeless and despairing times.

A senior, Victoria Landowski, participated in the race stating it was for a good cause and because she wanted to support her friends who are in the club.

Although she wasn’t feeling well she still managed to finish and enjoyed the race. “My favorite part was having people cheering me on and crossing the finish line,” says Victoria.
