The West Leyden theater department has once again started their season of productions for the year, displaying four main shows along with various student-directed shows.

In recent weeks, the Leyden theater department has been making headway on their upcoming production of The Diary of Anne Frank, the first main stage production of the school year. Directed by Mark Bernstein, the drama follows the life of the Frank and Van Daan families in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam as they try to escape the ever-growing threat from Nazism. Currently, in production, the show premieres on October 18th and runs through the 20th.

Just in time for Halloween is this year’s first student-directed play called Hallo Wonderland, directed by East Senior Stephanie Schulmeister. Debuting on October 18th, this children’s show following a Halloween themed Alice in Wonderland has auditions today, Wednesday, September 11th, at 3:45 in the East Auditorium and tomorrow, September 12th, at 3:45 in the West auditorium.

Getting in the Christmas spirit yet? Even though the holiday is still quite a while away, Leyden theater will be celebrating and bringing warm, fuzzy feelings to all of its audiences with its Pair of Christmas Carols, debuting on December 13th and running through December 15th. Make sure to keep an ear out for more upcoming information on it.

One of the most long-awaited events of the season is the annual musical, with its expert intermingling of singing, dancing, acting and more to bring a spectacular pizzaz on to the stage. Upcoming in late February and early March, (28th, 29th, 6th and 7th to be exact) is the Tony Award-Winning comedy, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, taking you into the auditorium of the Putnam Valley Middle School for their annual spelling bee. From crude jokes to quirky comedy, this production is sure to be a hit.

Finally, closing out the year is a world premiere, of the brand new, never before seen show Wave, being produced by our Teatro Leyden bilingual Spanish theater company. Set to run on May 1st, 2nd, 8th, and 9th, it’s a show you are sure not to miss. Be part of something amazing and make sure to listen out for more on this spectacular event.
